MLP Volunteering
Volunteering is about making things happen, experiencing leadership at grass roots level, and taking the initiative to make a difference.
There are a huge number of voluntary organisations that are taking a lead in tacking societies’ challenges in innovative ways: organisations that provide lots of opportunities for students wishing to volunteer while studying at the University of Manchester.
Students on the Manchester Leadership Programme have access to all of the support and guidance offered by our Volunteering & Community Engagement Team to students across the University, plus a range of opportunities and support.
All of the volunteering opportunities we promote are needs led. This means they are all activities that local charities and not-for-profit organisations need your help to deliver.
What is volunteering?
Volunteering is an unpaid activity with a charity or not-for-profit organisation that makes a difference to the wider community.
Volunteering is a great way to make a difference. As well as being fun, it can also help to:
- give you a great sense of achievement
- help you develop skills that employers look for, such as communication, organisation and teamwork skills
- make a positive impact on the wider community.
Volunteering is a key element of the Manchester Leadership Programme (MLP). To achieve the prestigious Manchester Leadership Programme, you must complete 15 hours (Bronze Level); 25 hours (Silver Level) or 40 hours (Gold Level) of volunteering.
The Manchester Leadership Programme will also be included on your Higher Education Achievement Record when you graduate.
